About Acharya Himanshu

Roots in the Sacred Land

My journey began in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, a small town within the sacred region of Naimisharanya, right on the banks of the Gomti River.

This is the ground where sages performed timeless Vedic rituals and where Sage Vyasa compiled the Srimad Bhagavatam. Growing up surrounded by such profound spiritual history laid the foundation for a life dedicated to the sacred sciences.

The Call of the Himalayas and Mother Ganga

At a young age, I answered the call of the Himalayas, moving to the banks of the Ganges in Rishikesh to live and study at Parmarth Niketan Ashram.

Parmarth Niketan is the largest ashram in Rishikesh, it is a spiritual centre where seekers from all corners of the globe gather to look inward and discover their true nature. Within its traditional gurukul, I immersed myself in the ancient guru-shishya parampar (the lineage of master and disciple). Under the direct guidance of experienced gurus, I spent many years studying Sanskrit, the Vedas, and Vedic mantras, eventually earning my Master’s degree in Sanskrit.

Studying within the gurukul at Parmarth Niketan was a transformative immersion into unity through diversity. Because Parmarth draws seekers, pilgrims, and students from every imaginable culture, nationality, and background, I spent many years surrounded by the entire world under one roof. Teaching and living alongside individuals from such vastly different walks of life taught me a profound lesson that regardless of where we come from, our inner struggles, our search for peace, and our capacity for growth are universal. Also, living life in a gurukul instilled a deep sense of discipline, sharp focus, and a profound surrender to the sacred rhythm of life long learning.

Growing up in this sacred environment offered a rare blessing for me, as it was an opportunity to sit closely with enlightened saints, gurus, and yogis, absorb their presence, and deeply understand their teachings. This traditional upbringing instilled in me an unshakable reverence for Sanskrit, Vedic knowledge, and the living wisdom of our heritage.

Why Rishikesh is Special

Rishikesh is much more than a town with a river, it is the Yoga Capital of the World and a divine land touched by the grace of Mother Ganga. Surrounded by the Himalayas and with holy Mother Ganga running through it, it has served for millennia as a sanctuary for sages, yogis, and seekers.

The very air here vibrates with spiritual energy, making it the ultimate location for inner transformation, self-realisation, and the practice of yoga, meditation, and pranayama.

Living the Tradition: Aarti, Festivals, and Service

For over 15 years, I have walked the path of service as a practitioner of sacred rituals (pujas) and a teacher of Hatha Yoga, Pranayama, and Mantra Meditation. This lineage places me at the heart of some of the world’s most powerful spiritual gatherings, such as the daily Ganga Aarti where I facilitated the transcendent evening prayers on the banks of Mother Ganga through the yagna (evening fire gratitude ceremony), where light, sound, and devotion merge into a profound collective meditation. And the world-renowned International Yoga Festival (IYF), held annually at Parmarth, brings together thousands of masters and practitioners from every tradition to unite in the spirit of yoga.

Today…

Why I Represent This Tradition

My teaching is the authentic ancient wisdom I lived and breathed for decades in Rishikesh and not a modern adaptation. Every class, every breathwork session, and every mantra I share carries the energy of the gurukul and the grace of the masters who shaped me.

Now based in the UK, my mission is to bridge the ancient wisdom of the East with the rhythm of modern life, offering a safe, sacred space for you to reconnect with your inner stillness, heal your body, and awaken your true potential through Hatha Yoga, Pranayama, and Meditation.

My approach is to help people understand yoga not only through the body, but also through traditional philosophy and purpose which builds self-awareness and strength, removing stress, bringing peace, and improving focus and mental clarity.

My greatest joy as a teacher comes from watching someone transform from carrying the weight of the modern world, and seeing them slowly being able to reconnect with their light. I feel happy when someone comes with a question and leaves with a deeper understanding. Seeing someone become more aware, happy, curious, and connected to their spiritual journey gives me great joy as it is about helping someone discover something within themselves, experience a positive inner shift, unlock their potential, and realise that lasting change begins from within. True yoga is about rippling that peace outward, spreading happiness, and helping every person realise they have the power to make a meaningful, positive change in the world.
